THIS WEEK'S LEARNING Week Beginning 22.10.18
Maths - We have been looking at using the Grid method of Multiplication to plan a Halloween Party.
The grid method is a method we teach before we move on to the compact method.
We have used the Grid Method as below:
123 x 4 =
400+80+12 = 492
English - In English this week, we have been writing instructional texts. We have looked at the features of instructional texts and then used them to write our own instructions about how to look after a cat or a dog.
Topic - This week has been Black History week in school. In Year 5, we have looked at Ruby Bridges.
Welsh - In Welsh, we have looked at instructional texts and how to plant a tulip bulb following welsh instructions. We looked at sequencing the instructions.
RE - This week, we have looked at Life Choices and marriage in particular. We looked at the Religious symbols of marriage. The children have also looked at planning their collective Worship for the end of our topic.
PE - This week, we enjoyed our session with Newport County. We played Handball and developed our Team Work Skills. The children have also been given the opportunity to plan and create their own games.
ICT - We looked at Spam emails and why we need to be careful when opening and responding to emails.
Class discussion - What important choices have we had to make and why?
Over half term, I would like the children to create either a fact file, model or presentation about our theme. Our Theme is 'Me and the UK'. Within the theme, we have looked at the Victorian era.
The children can use Hwb to produce their homework. They don't need to print this out as it will be saved on the Hwb profile.
In ICT, we have talked about the importance of not just copying and pasting work, as it is not their work. The children can use this research to inform their research.
Homework is to be handed in to Mr Shepherd on Wednesday 7th November.
Spellings - This year, we use Nessy for spellings. Nessy provides the children with the chance to understand the formation of words. The children have been placed in to Nessy groups, based on an assesment. In these groups, the children are taught the rule for the spellings. The children then have work based on this rule and are then given spellings to learn over the next week.
